Choose a manageable activity
Ask what brings enjoyment and which part of the day works best for going out. Allow enough time for breaks and the return journey without pressure to complete an itinerary. For exercise or new physical activity, seek advice suited to the person’s condition and abilities. Activities can be adapted at home too; the choice is not limited to sport or travel.
Verify access before booking
Ask about step-free entry, lifts, toilets, distances within the venue and transport. The word “accessible” is not enough: request measurements or photographs of the features that matter. For cross-border travel, check documents and current requirements with the relevant authority or carrier. Insurance, assistance and cover for existing conditions must be confirmed in the actual terms rather than assumed.
Prepare a backup plan
Carry necessary contacts in a readable format and agree how to communicate if plans change. Check charging and operation of assistive devices. A watch or GPS device does not guarantee signal, response or coverage everywhere. If the journey is not suitable, choose a nearer outing or another activity the person values; that is not a failure. Review what worked before planning the next trip.
