Planning a funeral

When arranging a funeral, separate the person’s wishes, practical questions and official procedures. One relative does not have to carry every organising task alone.

Start with wishes and contacts

If the person recorded wishes about the ceremony, faith or remembrance, use them as a starting point for the family conversation. Check whether any arrangements with a provider already exist and keep documents available for the appropriate professional to review. Choose a contact to coordinate questions, without presenting that practical role as legal authority to make every decision.

Ask for a clear description

Ask the provider for a written description of services, costs and what must be arranged separately. Discuss transport, venue, timing, access for disabled guests and participation by relatives at a distance. Do not assume a package includes everything. Note which choices can wait and which need confirmation, rather than relying only on verbal promises or a headline price.

Confirm procedures in the relevant place

For documents and procedures, contact the responsible institution in the relevant municipality and country. The Tirana municipal source below concerns its own service, not every location. For cross-border arrangements, seek guidance from the relevant authorities and consular service before arranging transport. AgeCare does not establish deadlines, payment entitlements or burial rules. Keep unresolved questions together and ask who can provide the authoritative answer.

Plan together

Difficult decisions become clearer when wishes are discussed early. A family note can help the conversation but is not a legal document.
